Public Involvement

It is important that the design team hear from the public.  By providing feedback, potential conflicts can be resolved before construction begins!  The public will have many opportunities to be active participants as the project develops.  Opportunities include Community Council meetings, newsletters, public meetings, this website, and one-on-one meetings with concerned stakeholders.  The project team is working for you, the public!

  PAST MEETINGS:

A project open house was held on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 from 5:00 to 7:30 pm at Anchorage City Church.  The purpose of the meeting was to introduce the project and get the dialogue started to find out the concerns of the community.  Check out the “Frequently Asked Questions” page to read some of the concerns that were brought up.

Input from the public is invaluable as we begin the design process.  It is important to understand the role of the community as the project develops.  The graphic below, which was presented at the Open House, illustrates the influence that the public can have on various project elements.  At one end of the spectrum are those elements which the public will be informed about, but really has little influence over.  These elements, such as the width of the lanes, are designed in accordance with current safety standards and therefore cannot be modified.  In the middle of the spectrum are those items for which the project team will “consult” with the community.  We will listen to your concerns and take those into consideration, along with our engineering judgment and standard practices, as design decisions are made.  At the other end of the spectrum are those elements where we will “involve” the public in the decision making process.  For example, it is a given that the project will have some form of sidewalk or trail.  However, where those are located and what they look like will be decided with input from the community.  So your input and feedback are important! Click here to submit comments

At the Open House, the project team also discussed what the road might look like.  Because we are in the early stages of design, we don’t know exactly what it will look like.  But given the amount of traffic we anticipate to see on this road, below is what we think the road might look like.  The need for curb and gutter will be decided as part of the drainage design.  There is also the possibility of adding bike lanes to the design.  Tell us what you think about these concept designs!  Click here to submit comments
